Introduction

For over two decades, I have contributed to the educational needs of children in the elementary school community. My instructional experiences have occurred in private & public schools, in South Carolina & North Dakota, and working with pre-school through sixth grade students. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Columbia Bible College, Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from Columbia International University, and Masters in Library Information Science from the University of North Texas. I believe that my purpose in education is to facilitate, encourage, and support the next generation of learners so that they can choose to be wise, responsible, and caring members of society.

I invite you to join me on my professional journey as an elementary library media specialist. My developing resume will provide a brief overview of my teaching career. You will also find my educational philosophy with implications for library science. In addition, I will post a weekly blog describing the highlights of my experiences in preparing to serve the elementary school community. Please check out the Personal Learning Resources (PLR) page for links to professional research and best practices in the field. The final five sections will summarize and support the standards of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) which define excellence and quality for school librarians.
